EXPLOSION IN BRACKENFELL CAPE TOWN

Cape Town - Fire and Rescue services in Cape Town were called out to an industrial area in Brackenfell on Monday, 6 April 2015, after several drums of paint thinners caught alight.

According to eyewitnesses on Twitter, several ‘explosions’ were heard in the Brackenfell area on Monday afternoon.

Fire and Rescue Cape Town spokesperson Theo Layne told News24 on Monday that an industrial fire broke out in Kruis Street, Brackenfell, prompting initial fears of potential damage to surrounding properties.

Gas cylinders and 200-litre drums of paint thinners caught fire at a small holdings property, causing several explosions.

The fire, though, has since been contained by Fire and Rescue services, with no damage to any properties reported. It was unclear what caused the fire, Layne added.

The matter is being investigated. No injuries were reported.
